Order of the Arrow Purpose

The purpose of the Order of the Arrow is fourfold:

  1. To recognize those Scout campers who best exemplify the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives
  2. To develop and maintain camping traditions and spirit
  3. To promote Scout camping
  4. To crystallize the Scout habit of helpfulness into a life purpose of leadership in cheerful service to others
Wisawanik Lodge 190, Order of the Arrow is granted a charter from the National Council, BSA, upon annual application by the local council, Arbuckle Area Council, BSA. The OA lodge helps Arbuckle Area Council provide a quality Scouting program through recognition of Scouting spirit and performance, development of youth leadership and service, promotion of Scout camping and outdoor programs, and enhancement of membership tenure. More information may be found on the National Order of the Arrow Web site.

The Order of the Arrow has a proud heritage of youth leadership supported by adult advisers. We believe true leaders base their action on ethical decision-making. We understand that the nurturing of leadership skills begins with the recruitment of highly capable, motivated, and caring adult advisers. It is cultivated through high quality leadership development programs. Youth leadership flourishes when those advisers provide an environment where youth can actively practice the skills they have been taught.
